Wrenbury & District Model Railway Club

Back on track.

In Spring 2020 the Wrenbury & District Model Railway Club planned to hold an Open Doors event in the Tithe Barn in the grounds of Sainsbury’s store in Whitchurch. This venue is open to community events that meet the criteria set out by Sainsbury’s. This free to enter event would have seen the club members running a variety of gauges of layouts owned by both the members and the club. Obviously that event was cancelled because of Covid lockdown.

Both parties were planning to reschedule the event for the 18th & 19th of February 2022 hoping that Covid would be a distant memory. The event has now finally been given the go-ahead and will take place on Friday the 6th of May from 5pm to 8pm and Saturday the 7th from 10am to 4.30pm. This event will be free to enter and subject to any Covid restrictions in place at the time.

To open the Saturday session at 10am someone ‘with authority’ will be present, the Whitchurch lady who shot to fame during lockdown Zoom meetings – Jackie Weaver.

The club members are planning to display much more than they had available in 2020, as they were able to resume their regular Wednesday evening meetings in the Wrenbury Village hall in May 2021, while observing Covid protocols. In addition to enhancing existing layouts and constructing more portable boards they acquired 5 new members plus a 009 gauge layout.

The club has the opportunity to attend even more events in 2022 – Covid permitting and now are seeking a commercial sponsor to assist them with the acquisition of a purpose-built trailer to keep their boards and equipment safe in transit.

The Wrenbury club is grateful for the continued support of Sainsbury’s in the planning of this event.
